Aloha!
In Hawaii we often mix flavors from different cultures to create something new, exciting, and unique. Call it the
Aloha Spirit. In 1983, we opened Third Wave Dance Studios to stir the melting pot of San Francisco, from the heart of the
Mission. Since then, we've actively engaged presenters, educators, and artists to mix traditional Ethnic and American dance
and theater.
The real estate boom of the late 90's ended our stay in the Mission, and with no signs of rescue, we closed in 1997.
Undaunted by eviction, we finally found this old warehouse (click on Pictures for a peek), called it Danzhaus, and have spent
the last 10 years filling it with Aloha for you.

John Zane created Danzhaus to continue the work he began in 1982 at Third Wave Dance Studios. He earned a fine arts degree
in Dance/theater from the University of Hawaii, where he studied Limon from Fritz Ludin and Bette Jones, ballet with Yasuki
Sasa and Nolan Dingman, Jazz with Jim Hutchingson, and drama with Terrance Knapp and Glenn Cannon.
A man of many talents, he was a full scholarship student in Opera (first tenor), played violin, djembe and djun-djun,
co-wrote original songs for two musicals, and provided the libretto/themes for several dance/theater productions.
In San Francisco, he starred in George Coates new age opera, Actual Sho, at the Herbst Theater. He directed and choreographed
for Z Fabulous French Poodles, and later fronted the CyberBeat Brothers band as singer/songwriter. He is presently choreographer
for KittyKittyBangBang, 3-time winners of the SF Bay Guardian's 'Best of the Bay' awards.
Mr. Zane has taught a dynamic, yet lyrical dance style since 1983, with emphasis on using video as an integral teaching
aid, for which he was honored with a Bay Guardian Best of the Bay award in 1987.
